For this renovation of Brown University’s Olney-Margolies Athletic Center (OMAC), 1100 Architect transformed a dark, inefficient, and outdated facility into a bright and contemporary flagship for the school’s varsity athletics program. By optimizing the use of space within the facility, the redesign introduces new programming—including a treatment and rehabilitation center, training rooms, and additional offices—without increasing the building’s footprint. A redesigned locker room for Brown’s football team features open gathering and lounge space for team meetings and integrated technology for game-film reviews. A new state-of-the-art training and physical therapy facility serves each of Brown’s 38 varsity sports team. Throughout the building, reconfigured circulation enhances connectivity and efficiency, while increasing exposure to natural light. Careful phasing and enabling-space strategies allowed the building to remain operational throughout construction.
