Roman Ships Museum

In 1939, two Roman ships were recovered from the backdrop of the Nemi Lake in Rome and five years later, a museum was built to accommodate the findings.

The object of a fourth year class was to design new museum spaces in the empty area located between the current museum and the lake.

Influenced by the historical events, my proposal consists of two bodies composed of a modular wood structure and a brise – soleil shell in order to evoke images of the ribs and planking of the ships.
Finally, the inclined plane between the buildings emerges from the water to commemorate the recovery of the ships.
