Coney Island’s iconic Parachute Jump Tower, at 277 feet and weighing 170 tons, was the nation’s most famous vertical thrill ride until it closed permanently in 1969. Thirty years later, STV was selected to provide condition assessment, planning, design, structural rehabilitation and construction oversight services. The company's engineering team identified potential near-term and long-term tower enhancements and site improvements that would restore the structure to its former grandeur, while preserving its historic integrity. In addition, STV oversaw the lighting design consultant and provided the associated electrical design. The completion of the lighting design in July 2006 marked the end of the firm’s seven-year involvement in this award-winning project. The New York City Economic Development Corporation was the client.
