New Orleans, like many cities, is in desperate need of more housing. Our current footprint begs for the infill of land left vacant by prior natural disasters and blight. This Community Master Plan, comprised of structures that are formed from shipping containers with site built elements, allowed our team to study efficient housing solutions. In lieu of building a large residential block building that has residents enter through a lobby and traverse on a prescribed interior path to their apartment, the focus was on creating on standalone homes that are structured around shared spaces and community amenities. The intent is the creation of shared “ownership” of the community elements giving all homeowners an equal stake and responsibility in where they live. The modular nature allows the homes to built at an affordable cost therefore accessible to the New Orleans population.
