Shelton Residence - Remodel and Addition

The remodel of an existing 3 bedroom, 2 1/4 bath two story single family beach house in the Pier Ponte neighborhood of Ventura, California.  The home owners on the verge of retirement desired to convert their weekend home into their full time residence to spend their golden years in a quaint ocean side neighborhood.

The existing residence lacked a sufficient kitchen for a grandmother and grandfather who enjoy entertaining family and friends throughout the year.  It also lacked a sufficient master bedroom and master closet for a full time retired couple.  Thus our goal was two fold to enlarge the kitchen and the second floor master bedroom to accommodate the owners lifestyle.  The owners second objective was for the new addition to be visually seamless and tied into the original architectural character of the home.

Our proposal was to reconfigure the existing main floor kitchen and to enclose the existing second story rooftop deck into a new integrated master bathroom and closet.  The concept was to create the closet as a space with the bathroom instead of being separate from it there by maximizing the use of limited space for both functions.
