This 18 sq.km. stretch of land stretches from North to South along the river, with the old city to its East and a new industrial park being planned to its West. The Eco-City is planned as a model-township based on sound ecological research and best practice principles while at the same time establishing unique relationships with its context.
The structure of the masterplan is based on the ecology of the river, as well as its people. An ecological network winds its way through and around the site serving multiple purposes of green corridors, recreational zones, infrastructure such as stormwater collectors and treatment zones, movement corridors and natural habitat for native flora and fauna. The road network derives from the morphological grid of the surrounding villages, creating a walkable network of roads and pathways ensuring public and pedestrian access throughout the site. Compact and mixed-use neighbourhoods create communities with distinct identities. Key core areas form landmarks across the site, acting as anchors and place-makers that tie the entire development together.
