Inclusive, Long-Term Legacy for Olympic Villages - Rio de Janeiro 2016

This project aims at demonstrating strategies that can be adopted in order to ensure that the growth and development related with a mega-event is continually integrated with the national, regional and local long-term objectives. These strategies are alternatives at various scales of decision making, questioning certain preconceived notions and models of development and at the same time illustrating ways in which a more integrated development may be possible that is relevant for the country, the region, the city and the locality. The case study for this is the Athlete’s and Media Villages. As part of this exercise, this project undertakes two design-based scenarios –

1. Redesign of the Current Proposal on a given site. Design strategies that allow for a better integrated, more humane and more urban solution.

2.  Connecting the Current Proposal with the city fabric. Design strategies that change and adapt what has been built into something better.
