Lake House

A house located at the edge of a lake which opens to its surroundings through a composition of layers. Through the overlapping of layers the house is able to frame different areas on the site, including the garden or lake view.  By using Japanese paper screens the view can be controlled as needed, allowing for the creation of changing views throughout the year.  All the sliding doors are also used in combination with Japanese “sudare” screens made from bamboo, which improve the control of illumination.  By opening the house to its environment the inhabitants can feel part of the site and experience the transition of time.
