Forest House

This house situated in a forested area incorporates the use of retractable louvered panels, which can be adjusted according to the needs of the inhabitants and weather conditions.  The panels provide privacy when needed, shade during summer, improved ventilation in summer, and improve control of views.  At any time the house can expand its space and become part of the forest.  This interaction of interior and exterior is a key design principle of traditional Japanese architecture which allows small spaces to be perceived much bigger through the incorporation of areas outside your site.
