The focus of the project was to design a classroom that would include the use of a panelized system in
which a material of choice was thoroughly researched and analyzed.
I was interested in exploring the versatility of a typical 8” x 8” x 16” concrete masonry unit (CMU block). By understanding it’s structural integrity as well as taking advantage of it’s ‘hollow’ form to control the environmental conditions that penetrate the building, I was able to manipulate the natural systems that come into the classroom with two kinds of floor to ceiling openings in each panel respectively.
