MANAYUNK DIVE CENTER
The Manayunk Dive Center features a tensile semi- transparent structure in which diving activity can be scene even at night. The silhouettes illuminate the street as you approach the facility. As you enter you are welcomed between enormous concrete structures. The three parts of the dive; the approach, flight, and the entry were thought of throughout the design phase. Compression/ Release theory is adapted as the roof between the concrete structures is pitch downward until you reach the entrance to the seating (APPROACH). Your view is thoughtfully framed as the two concrete masses merge seemingly overhead of the highest diving board (FLIGHT). The final stage (ENTRY) occurs while entering the seating as the compression is released and you enter under the tensile fabric.
