Elena is a trained architectural designer and art enthusiast with a strong passion for sustainable design and residential architecture. Originally from Salamanca, Spain, Elena moved to New York in 2015, where she received her bachelor’s degree from Syracuse University, graduating Summa Cum Laude with an accredited architecture degree and a Fine Arts and Art Histories Minor. Throughout college, her education was supplemented with professional opportunities that allowed her to become experienced in the design of low-energy buildings and passive systems implementation, as well as efficiency analysis and calibration both at the individual and urban scale.
Currently, Elena has relocated to Long Island, where she practices as a full-time architectural designer for James Merrell Architects in Sag Harbor. Her passion for fine arts has also led her to recently become the Co-Director of Modern Marvel Gallery.
In her work, Elena seeks to find ways to negotiate between the sculptural and the sustainable, in order to arrive to a new form of aesthetics that does not forget about the practice’s most basic principles.

Shepley Bulfinch, Boston, MA, US, Architectural Intern
Worked as a design assistant in the development of the University of Edinburgh library addition. My role was focused on the design of an efficient passive facade system through the use of performance simulation tools. Other non-design related tasks included the production of rendered visualizations, animations, and the production of three-dimensional computer models.
Everson Museum Of Art, Syracuse, NY, US, Exhibition production team
Worked towards the exhibition design and production of architectural materials for the exhibition celebrating the Everson Museum 50th year anniversary.
Preformative Praxis Lab, Syracuse, New York, Energy Research Assistant
Worked as a first assistant and co-author towards the development of research materials now published in the Proceedings for the 2018 IBPS Building Simulation Conference. My role focused on the energy analysis of a residential community in Texas and the development of a urban energy model for simulation, as well as running simulations on such model to obtain data. From the data extracted we were able to determine the best architectural retrofit for each of the participant homes, to guarantee best energy performance.
MART Lab, Syracuse, NY, US, Research Assistant
Worked as a design assistant towards the development of a self-sustainable housing prototype. My responsibilities included applying knowledge about passive and environmental systems, research on low-carbon materials and proposing weekly design schemes.
Estudio ARTiquectura, Salamanca, ES, Arrchitectural Intern
Worked towards the development of a small residential project. Primary tasks included design assistance, drafting and the production of rendering visualizations and construction documents.
