Clinique ii is a private orthodontic clinic for an opinion leader and luminary who is applying and researching the most advanced techniques and materials in his discipline. The Architects envisioned an implant concept based on orthodontic typical use of high precision medical devices as design principle throughout the space. Interior wall surfaces and furniture merge seamlessly into a white shell with a splash of yellow corian where cutting edge medical technology is implanted.

UNIQUE PROPERTIES / PROJECT DESCRIPTION: The design of this dental clinic revolves around a thorough research on workflow, primary functions of each space and the basic knowledge of medical equipment placement. A general perception of a dental clinic is where people associate the space with fear, anxiety and pain, but the architects worked on a concept, where the space creates a calm yet inspiring environment.

INSPIRATION: Why do healthcare spaces have to be cold spaces? This has been the underlying question since the beginning of our proposal. In fact there are several activities that go on in a clinical space, some regarding actual medical treatments and others related to social and reception areas. This project aims to reinforce the social and humane side of healthcare facilities. OPERATION / FLOW / INTERACTION: The plan has clearly demarcated spaces with the seating, reception and treatment room in a linear arrangement on one side and the Doctor’s cabin, and paediatric cabin on the other side, contained inside the Box. The Box is raised by six inches from the floor level and is finished as a monochromatic whole to emphasize the cubical feel. A cove runs around it, further defining and segregating the space from the rest of the interiors. Storage spaces are intelligently merged within the interior elements providing coherence and visual connectivity to the space.

PRODUCTION / REALIZATION TECHNOLOGY: A visual guideline has been established via wooden slats and led profile lights in the ceiling. The tools and equipment are smartly organised in the wall storage units as well as the air condition units and batteries in the black aluminium grills above the storage, keeping the space crisp and clean. The utility counters are fabricated in a yellow solid acrylic surface and the sinks are carved out from the same. The overall space is tied in perfect sync with functionality, workflow, aesthetics and durability. A medical vocabulary is compiled on a film and pasted on the glass partitions to avoid clear visibility into the treatment rooms and the doctors clinic. Materials used: Flooring - Vitrified tiles Furniture & Decor: Dupont Corean, ICA colour lamination, 304 Stainless steel, Aluminium grills, extra clear glass Light fixtures: Profile LED, Concealed POP LED lights, Trim-less LED spot lights False-ceiling - Wooden slats & Gypsum board.

RESEARCH ABSTRACT: After a thorough research on workflow, primary functions of each space, and basic knowledge of medical equipment placement, we designed the following functional pockets; a reception area to seat ten to fifteen people, plus a storage for water dispenser and tea machine; doctor's cabin, treatment room with three dental chairs and a separate paediatric section. The ultimate design goal for the clinic was to make the treatment process positive for the patient and also improve workflow to increase staff efficiency. CHALLENGE: Although a small space, had a requirement of a substantially larger space. A reception with a waiting for ten to twelve patients, a doctors cabin, three dental chairs along with its individual equipment and services, ample and organised storage for tools and equipment and most important accommodating an invertor for the entire premises. Our vision was to make sure the above requirements doesn’t create a visual chaos for the people working as well as visiting this clinic.
