Terraced Terrace

The client approached us desperate to find more space in their 1960s mid-terrace family home for their growing family having just had an application for a loft conversion refused by the Local Authority.

 nimtim sought a new approach of unlocking space on the ground floor level by reconfiguring the existing spaces and using permitted development laws to extend without the need for full planning approval.

 The key move was to create a sunken patio and series of raised beds and terraces which allowed a new rear extension to sit comfortably within the exceptionally steep rear garden.

 A simple material pallette of rich red brickwork and oak flooring and windows references the character of the existing house but clearly identifies the new elements as belonging to something new and different.
