The client approached us to extend their 1950’s terraced house to create a more usable kitchen and dining area with a better connection to the rear garden.

 Nimtim proposed an addition formed with a series of lightweight timber portals running both front to back and side to side. The timber structure defines a series of openings along the roof and onto the rear garden. This timber grid extends both into the garden and into the house blurring the boundary between inside and out. The enclosed part of the extension steps in plan, reflecting the historic footprint of the site and allowing the garden to extend into the living space.

This project was granted Planning Approval from Southwark in January 2016 and completed in Spring 2017.
