Vertical Library
Through and through began with exploring the intersections of circular and cylindrical voids and its resulting shapes and figures. Though somewhat arbitrary at first, the final figure uses the penetrating cylindrical void in a controlled way that organizes the interior space and subsequent circulation.
The exterior exhibits sweeping curves and smooth edges, while the interior is the “low resolution” version of these curves – stacked boxes that resemble a pixelated curve. These stacks are comprised of shelves and the primary occupiable spaces are comprised of cascading staircases that allow a gradient of program to occur. The void through the figure allows one to see through the space as one circulates up or down and around the library and is the heart of this project.
