The Architecture Drawing Prize exhibition is set to open at Sir John Soane’s Museum in London. The event, opening on January 31, will display drawings by the finalists and category winners of the latest Architecture Drawing Prize edition, which we reported on in November 2023.
On view until March 3, the exhibition “takes the visionary as its theme,” with curators combining selected drawings with examples from Soane’s collection to showcase how “drawing is at the very heart of expressing innovation and design intent in architecture.” In addition, a reading table dedicated to exceptional drawings through the history of architecture will further enhance visitors' appreciation of the exhibits.
“Along with producing his own buildings, Sir John Soane sought to inspire young architects to learn from the built world around them, and did so through using drawings in innovative ways,” said Louise Stewart, director of the Sir John Soane’s Museum about the exhibition. “The Architecture Drawing Prize continues this tradition, showcasing new work that celebrates draughtsmanship, skill, and innovation.”
The 2023 edition of the Architecture Drawing Prize attracted a record 250 submissions from around the world, with three winners crowned at the recent World Architecture Festival in Singapore. The Digital winner was The Archatographic Map of the Incomplete Landscape on Pedra Branca by Eugene Tan, while the Hand-drawn winner was Grundtvig by Ben Johnson. Meanwhile, the Hybrid winner was (Re)membering the See Monster by Eldry John Infante.
