Tatiana Bilbao and Mariam Kamara will be joined by Tosin Oshinowo and Fernando Laposse on Earth Day, Saturday, April 22nd, for a special summit hosted by the group The World Around at the Guggenheim Museum in New York City.
The event culminates in the awarding of the inaugural Young Climate Prize and is being led by writer Beatrice Galilee with the aim of “combining transformative designs and progressive thought leadership through the lens of climate and social justice.”
Galilee said: “We are convening to discuss how architecture and design can go beyond building and objects to become a critical part of creating solutions to some of the world’s most pressing issues. With global carbon emissions from the built environment accounting for nearly 40% of total greenhouse gas emissions, it is critical that the global voices in our community come together to share the best new ideas, and advocate for the power and potential of design.”
They will be joined by a slate of other leading names from the design world, including Andrés Jaque, Alice Rawsthorn, Claire Webb, Dr. Prijo Haikola, Richard Mousse, Kyong Park, River Claure, Wallmakers, Organizmo, LEONG LEONG, and SOUND ADVICE.
The group will help recognize the prize's inaugural cohort, which has been mentored by select “Design Champions” through workshops throughout the selection process and hails from Nigeria, Uganda, Indonesia, Kenya, Colombia, México, Sierra Leone, and Egypt, among other countries.
Tickets start at $50 for non-members. More information about the event can be found here.
