The annual AIA|LA Design Awards winners have been announced following a gala in front of a crowd of more than 500 at the chapter’s awards party at the BroadStage in Santa Monica.
New built and unbuilt projects were recognized in the Design and Next LA Awards categories and presented to the audience by their three-member jury and eleven-year-old aspiring architect Madison Dorsey and 2023 AIA|LA President-Elect Leslie Sydnor. The chapter's highest honor, the Gold Medal Award, was also presented to Perkins&Will Principal and Director of Global Diversity Gabrielle Bullock as part of the ceremony. In total, forty-two projects were awarded in both categories around the theme of "Elevate Community."
“‘Elevate’ is a fitting description for our profession’s primary goal. Particularly here in Los Angeles, ‘elevate’ is a concept we aim to actualize through our work," current president Mitra Memari said in her address. "All the awards tonight reflect these efforts to ‘elevate,’ whether through innovative and sustainable design; developing supportive housing; adaptive reuse to preserve our history; reimagining healthcare facilities to improve the patient experience; or working on the frontlines to advocate for equity and inclusion in all forms.”
Each winner complies with environmental standards in the national AIA's 2030 Commitment climate strategy.

Does anyone know if these AIA awards are pay to play or can you submit a project without having to pay a fee? Just thinking about next year and a couple of projects that are wrapping up. I'm not too keen on the having to pay aspect to a lot of awards.
