Reimagining the Brooklyn Bridge Design Competition

The New York City Council and Van Alen Institute have launched Reimagining Brooklyn Bridge, an international design competition that aims to spark a new public conversation about New York City’s infrastructure Reimagining Brooklyn Bridge challenges participants to rethink the iconic Brooklyn Bridge walkway. We will select six finalist teams who create unconventional designs that respect and enhance the bridge’s landmark status, think inclusively about mobility and access, and accommodate commuters, visitors, and vendors. The competition is open to all.

Re-imagining Play - Designing resourceful playgrounds in refugee camps
Registration Deadline:  Monday, Jul 27, 2020
Submission Deadline:  Tuesday, Aug 11, 2020

How do we keep children engaged and safe, while also helping them overcome traumatic experiences? How do we help them develop the skills and abilities to make sense of their surroundings? Develop an architectural concept creating a safe, stable happy place for children in an otherwise chaotic world.  Seeing this as a two-step problem, attempt to bring in education to the children, and secondly focus on letting the children be children.

Architecture in Transformation should respond to contemporary challenges and changes. What concerns us primarily is the relationship between architecture and city, as well as the one between architecture and natural environment. The competition aims at searching and constructing human space with a Spirit of Place in the increasingly fragmented cities and unordered villages, exploring environment-friendly and sustainable ideas in the information age, and integrating creative concepts with solid basic skills in architectural design.
