Archtober Wikipedia Edit-a-thon

Walking Tour – Renovating the Financial District: Skyscrapers, Plazas and the Impact of Zoning

The tour focuses on what has come to be known as “Skid(more) Row” (Chase Manhattan Plaza, 140 Broadway and One Liberty Plaza) and the Water Street corridor, once planned to be the route of the Second Avenue Subway. We discuss adaptive reuse of older structures, and view downtown Manhattan’s signature spires of the 1930s en route. Highlights include buildings by SOM, Pei Cobb Freed, Kevin Roche, Philip Johnson, Davis Brody, Tsao & McKown, and Frederic Schwartz, among others.

Building of the Day: Hunter’s Point South Waterfront Park | October 31

Recently opened to the public, Phase II of Hunter's Point South Waterfront Park transforms 5.5 acres of abandoned industrial landscape into a new waterfront park. Phase II begins south of 54th Avenue and wraps around Newtown Creek to complete the full vision of Hunter's Point South Park initiated in Phase I, and resulting in nearly 11 acres of a continuous waterfront park.
