As the summer season comes to a close, don't miss out on some of the ongoing art and design exhibitions in New York City while they're still open! Bustler's latest list of NYC event picks include: “The Fourth Regional Plan” at the Center for Architecture; Yayoi Kusama's “Narcissus Garden” installation as part of MoMa PS1's “Rockaway!” series; the Museum of Art and Design's “La Frontera” exhibition exploring the cultural exchange that occurs at the U.S.-Mexico Border; and the upcoming interactive (and probably Instagrammable) “Room for Tea” exhibition.
Read on for our latest weekly event recommendations.
Room for Tea | Opening on August 28
Enlightened by different tea culture and its adaption in NYC, ROOM FOR TEA offers a 40-minute fun journey featuring 5 main scenes and 18 visual highlights to give everyone a fun and aesthetic way to experience and learn more about tea.
Rockaway! 2018: Narcissus Garden by Yayoi Kusama | Open now through September 3
Don't miss artist Yayoi Kusama's “Narcissus Garden”, MoMA PS1's third iteration of their “Rockaway!” series! Comprised of 1,500 mirrored stainless steel spheres, the installation is on view in a former train garage that dates to the time when Fort Tilden was an active US military base. The mirrored metal surfaces reflect the industrial surroundings of the now-abandoned building, drawing attention to Fort Tilden’s history as well as the devastating damage inflicted on many buildings in the area by Hurricane Sandy in 2012.
La Frontera: Encounters Along the Border | Open now through September 23
La Frontera: Encounters Along the Border seeks to explore this space and what it represents. Jewelry artists from Mexico, the United States, Latin America, and Europe expose the underlying currents of the border environment within geographic, political, economic, social, cultural, and ideological contexts. The artists transform metal, fiber, wood, and other materials into representations of their experiences, their influences, their dreams, and their nightmares.
The Fourth Regional Plan | Open now through November 3
Published by the Regional Plan Association in 2017, the Fourth Regional Plan includes a broad vision and specific recommendations to promote equity, health, prosperity, and sustainability for the next generation. The exhibition will investigate four critical area types across the region: the core, the suburbs, local downtowns, and regional green spaces. In addition, the exhibition will showcase the Four Corridors, a special, six-month initiative launched prior to the release of the Fourth Regional Plan.
