After the long
weekend, whether you are focusing on home improvements or thinking about how
city living itself can be improved, there's plenty for you to get involved with
around London this week.
Check back regularly to keep up to date with London's latest happenings and our weekly recommendations.
Azzedine Alaïa: The Couturier | from 10 May
Azzedine Alaia is world-famous for his influence on high-fashion and his creations of expression of the female form. Before his death in November last year, he was working with The Design Museum to curate an exhibition from the past 35 years of his work. The exhibition also integrates commissioned architectural elements by artists and designers who had a long-term creative dialogue. His untimely passing throws this exhibition into a unique context and light.
VeloCity: connecting Cambridge and Oxford | 11 May
VeloCity, a
competition-winning urban design concept developed around the notion of
creating a village for the 21st Century. This lunchtime talk will explore the
ideas behind the scheme, and forms part of NLA's Knowledge Capital series.
Yto Barrada: Agadir | until 20 May
This installation looks at how a city and its inhabitants could consider the pathways of reinvention following disaster. The exhibition particularly examines the devastating earthquake in Morocco's Agadir, which destroyed much of the 1960s modernist city.
Grand Designs Live | until 14 May
If your passion for architecture is fuelled or founded by Kevin McCloud's 'Grand Designs', then make sure you make it to Grand Designs Live. There will be experts running drop-in sessions, as well as 'halls' sections dedicated to different elements of building design. Expect to see everything from beautifully designed doorstops to revolutionary innovation in building fabrics.
This evening event's discussions will be led by a mix of London bloggers who will delve into the complexities and challenges of representing the eclectic capital. Whether you are a writer or a reader, this event, held at Allies and Morrison, will be a fascinating insight into the people behind the pages.
