Alexandra Lange, "The Design of Childhood" | April 24
How can the built environment help children cultivate self-reliance? In these debates, parents, educators, and kids themselves are often caught in the middle. In her new book, The Design of Childhood: How the Material World Shapes Independent Kids, design critic Alexandra Lange reveals the surprising histories behind the human-made elements of our children’s pint-size landscape.
Baneful Medicine: Lecture & Discussion | April 24
A free, public lecture and discussion affiliated with the ongoing group exhibition Baneful Medicine examines issues of the history and ethics around biomedical research and contemporary artists' response to them.
Productive Hybrids: Design III, Urban Housing in San Juan | Open now until April 27
This Cooper Union exhibition highlights a work in progress – the Spring 2018 Third Year Design Studio – as the class develops new proposals for post-disaster hybrid housing typologies in San Juan, Puerto Rico. The project seeks to create innovative dwelling types that respond to new ways of “living-working-producing” within the tropical climate and the complex social, economic and cultural context, with a focus on long-term resilience. A gallery roundtable discussion will take place April 24 at 6:30 p.m.
IABSE Future of Design NYC 2018 | April 28
Join the IABSE for their second annual Future of Design Conference in NYC. This year's theme will be Intersections: Insights and Ideas from Creative Collaborations. The conference is interactive, hands-on, experimental, forward-looking and broad in its reach with an aim to maximize the exchange of innovative and provocative ideas between participants.
