This week has a distinctive interest in how cities function both in growth and against adversity, whether that is through tours of existing neighbourhoods or in discussions of art and knowledge of cities across the pond.
Check back regularly to keep up to date with London's latest happenings and our weekly recommendations!
New London Neighbourhood Tour - Victoria | 29 November
Victoria may have
just found itself with a carbuncle cup but its recent development
includes remarkable projects from EPR, PLP, and Auckett Swanke to name just a
few. This whole area, bookended by Buckingham Palace and West Minster Abbey,
and benefitting from a major central station hub, is an interesting mix of work
and play.
NYLON #12 Comeback Cities | 30 November
Discussing his experience of being New York's Deputy Mayor, Dan Doctoroff will be joined by experts from both NYC and London in exploring the resiliency of cities. The lunch in London will happen simultaneously with a breakfast in New York, with the seminar live in both cities, to join debate and knowledge.
Outer London Station Sites | 1 December
Station sites are not only attractive places to live, they are vital in supporting the growth of our cities. This breakfast talk will look at the ways in which interventions in key station sites would support their role in future city development.
And
Tear up the Rule Book | 25 January
Tackling issues in a brash and direct way is the Turncoat series. Founded on the belief that architecture debates usually have very similar speakers discussing a point with very little actual debate. This upcoming talk has just sold out, but get your names on the waiting list for any last minute tickets, or better still, book yourself a ticket for January now, to avoid missing out.
Wade Guyton: Das New Yorker Atelier, Abridged
Errors in printing are often an office nightmare, but in this exhibition, Wade Guyton uses these inconsistencies idiosyncrasies along with purposeful streaks and mis-feeds to distort and manipulate fabric into becoming intriguing pieces. Utilising modern technology to create such paintings, which translate these tools onto surface, shows how the historical material of canvas can take in the impression of digital printing.
