Wondering what architecture and design events are going on in New York City right now? Bustler's latest event picks include a book talk with Dr. Rositsa Ilieva about the growing urban food planning movement and a symposium that re-examines the old question “How to live in America?” in today's society. Plus, Archtober is back for 2017! Check back regularly for more Bustler event recommendations.
The Urban Foodscape | September 28
Dr. Rositsa Ilieva will give a talk based on her 2016 book, “Urban Food Planning: Seeds of Transition in the Global North”, which delves into how architects, designers, and city planners are using their skills to help communities restore the social-ecological aspect of food and to “dismantle the notion of food as a mere commodity”.
Symposium: "Living in America: Frank Lloyd Wright, Harlem & Modern Housing" | September 28-29
Based on the exhibition of the same name, this two-day symposium brings together housing scholars for a conversation to “provoke new questions about how we live in America, together, today”.
“Point 0” Screens at The Cooper Union | September 28
Catch a viewing of “POINT 0”, an oral history film by architect Christina Condak and Vienna-based experimental theater team Toxic Dreams. In the film, architects “reflect on their initiations into the culture of architecture education in a kind of ritual performance...Asked to recall vivid memories and relevant experiences from their education, they perform a few physical actions and tell their stories.”
It's already that time of year for New York City's architecture and design month. Starting October 1, there will be a flurry of tours, lectures, exhibitions, etc. throughout the city that celebrate and explore the importance of architecture and design in everyday life. Stay tuned for weekly Archtober event highlights here on Bustler and Archinect!
