It's that part of the summer where the architecture scene slows down. Take the time to catch up ongoing exhibitions, and making the most of walking tours while the sun does shine. If you haven’t jetted off to sunnier climes, why not make believe with other art lovers at Saturday's mini art festival (below), and pretend you are in a mythical tropical paradise?
Don't miss your last chance to catch the RA's Summer Exhibition (and its alternative) and ZHA's Unbuilt. Check back regularly to keep up to date with London's latest happenings and our weekly recommendations!
This immersive experience has been created by Wayne McGregor, a multi award-winning choreographer and director, alongside art collective Random International. Huge spheres flock above the crowd, and move depending on generative algorithms, which respond directly to select inhabitants of the space. There are also pop-up performances from young artists on Friday afternoons, which explore the exhibition's themes.
RA Summer Lates: The Other Paradise | 19 August
Closing out the Summer Exhibition is this Late at the RA; The Other Paradise. Featuring performances from African drummers and tropical DJ sets to workshops including Mermaid Life Drawing, be prepared to be surprised and awed by this night of exciting and wonderful experiences.
Exhibition: It’s Called Art Mum, Look It Up | 18-22 August
Emerging artist,
Polly Nor, holds this solo exhibition in Shoreditch later this week. Her iconic
artwork challenges identity, and has already been used as inspiration and
mainstream communication alike. Her work is celebrated for it's exploration of
sexuality and emotional turmoil experienced through the female experience of
life in the internet-age.
Architecture Walking Tour: Kennington SE11 | 20 August
South London has seen its fair share of regeneration in recent times. With Vauxhall, Elephant and Castle, and Battersea all undergoing massive change, there becomes a renewed interest in the history and context of these neighbourhoods. In this walking tour, former resident Stephanie Odu, Studio Ëpps' creative director, acts as a guide around the often forgotten architectural past of the area. This is an opportunity not only to see the changing landscape of these communities, but to get a sketchbook out to visually study the buildings being discussed.
