Over the years, Barbie has been an astronaut, a nurse, the president of the United States and a police officer, among more than 120 careers. But she’s never been an architect, and a University at Buffalo architecture professor wants to change that. I'm pretty sure I voted for this a few weeks ago and went for "surgeon". I'm all about making buildings that are "safe, sturdy, and cool-looking", but I just don't see Barbie as an architect.
Do little girls actually have the dolls play out the role of the professions assigned them anyway? When I played with Barbie as a child, her only concern was a great outfit and sex with, um I mean a date with, Ken.
really? don't the students and professor have something better to do than campaign for an icon of unrealistic expectations to glamorize their profession?
what about anti-establishment dyke barbie? i'd go for that.
just think about it... women architects make up less than 14% of licensed architects in the US, but they're 60% of the students enrolled in architecture schools. not to mention that only .02% of those licensed women are african american (AIA Stats - FYI). the introduction of an architect barbie to young girls could strike a match, and make them curious about the profession - curious enough to pursue it as a career. c'mon it's not that ridiculous of an idea.

Do they make black turtlenecks in her size? Or 'Architecture Sucks' t-shirts?
rediculous... but awesome at the same time

Yeah, sounds great - maybe she read about this over at Archidose [http://archidose.blogspot.com/2010/01/architect-barbie.html] or AMNP [http://architecture.myninjaplease.com/?p=7109] last month.
Because I would bet she heard about this Barbie thing from a web surfing student.
Did Mattel ever make a Barbie with a tail? Her name would have to be Miranda, of course, not Barbie.
