So should Saarinen go untouched? Are the preservationists right? Will this not fly just because it's not DS+R?

Personally, I feel like given a) the fact that it is on the roof, b) the fact that it is set back, c) the fact that it is fairly respective/contextually designed I would say it should go through.

Double agreed. Preservation isn't worth much if we refuse to allow respectful adaptation and slowly turn anything preserved into a museum. This looks like a very subtle, respectful and I think even complementary addition, and we should be open to such additions in most cases.
