Like him or not, I think what the article failed to mention is that Gehry's "time" was during the last building boom (bubble?).
The time for boundary stretching creativity should never be over. But let's hand the reins over to younger, less expensive architects that can come up with less expensive, yet highly creative designs (granted, the article points this situation has just been handed over to a 'corporate' generic firm that will design another a polished useless box).
can't remember the source, but a couple/few years ago I read somewhere that gehry had requested that the developer breakup the development among different architects, saying it was too big to be the product of one process, and the developer refused. at the time seemed like an interesting case of maximal exploitation of a starchitect's brand... if it was true, seems relevant to that article...
i shall admit, i was more interested in the photograph than the news content. as far as architecture is concerned, gehry can kick ass, minus a few projects he sucked. brooklyn bride... hahahhaa... nobody is perfect!
