this article is ridiculous, or shall i say without memory. anyone that knows the meatpacking district knows that this area was the place to pick up prostitutes, especially transvestite prostitutes. it was immortalized in films like amercian psycho as such.
the meatpacking district was also known for its extremely raunchy sex clubs like the hole. why is this not part of the discussion? why do people only want to preserve those aspect of history that are "acceptable" the deviancy of this area is as key to its area as it's brick warehouse buildings and industrial flavor. the lewdness of these acts is social historic preservation. i commend it.
futureboy..cmon now...you're expecting memorable reporting from the new york post? and one of the people does mention the history of the area as being sexually deviant..
"Grandparent Gwen Barrett said the neighborhood has always been edgy.
"That kind of stuff here is anticipated," she said. "
that's true....but alas, i still think it's funny that people are nimby about something that was there until they came in 8 years ago.
meat packing district, wasn't that the first clue...? [ba-dum-bum] [i'll be playing at the local chuckles 8 days a week from 1230 am - 300 am] thank you!
seriously though, what's worse; the highline with naked people or some random buggery or times square with a disney store? what's more of a perversion?
b3ta,
nice opening
this, from the city that has one of the highest sales rates of binoculars (to peep fellow neighbors)
i bet it's all the staff from polshek trying to drum up interest/controversy to get their name in [more] print
Brilliant proof that architecture isn't about bricks, it's about people. Sometimes naked ones.
best highline story yet. i hope people continue to take advantage of the fortuitous relationship of building and landscape.
I believe in Florida... one cannot be charged with indecency or lewd behavior if they are "doing it" within the confines of one's property.
However, if those are the kinds of naked people hanging out in windows... I don't see why anyone is complaining getting a free show like that!
