London-designer Asif Khan's pavilion for the Sochi 2014 Olympics is essentially a building-sized pin screen, capable of transforming its facade into 3D projections of visitors' faces. Khan designed the pavilion for MegaFon, the general partner of the Sochi Winter Olympics and one of Russia's largest telecommunications companies. Visitors can have their photo taken at 3D photo booths stationed around the pavilion and throughout MegaFon retailers preceding the games, and then watch the facade shift into gigantic portraits.
Khan also designed the Coca-Cola Beatbox Pavilion for London's Summer Olympics in 2012. Check out a test-run of the pin screen in the video below.

Cool, but too bad Sochi is a magnet for terrorist attacks.
In payback for Russia's support of the Sytian regime, the volgograd gift from Saudi Arabia. Per Bandar Bush (one of the Saudi hawks, chierf of intelligence, with a history of working in collusion with extremist jihadi groups going back to soviet-friendly afghanistan) :
"Bandar told Putin, “ ... As an example, I can give you a guarantee to protect the Winter Olympics in the city of Sochi on the Black Sea next year. The Chechen groups that threaten the security of the games are controlled by us, and they will not move in the Syrian territory’s direction without coordinating with us. These groups do not scare us. We use them in the face of the Syrian regime but they will have no role or influence in Syria’s political future"

The video is amazing and terrifying.
This is speculative, of course, but dr. Farrell has a nice little write-up on Russian stategy. If things don't get interesting in Sochi, they might heat up afterwards.
