Ironically, Libeskind's works can be summed up with just one word: Dated
I did like his point that architecture unlike the arts is primarily about optimism. Not sure that i agree that this applies to all architects, but i am certainly interested in the built environment because of the possibilities of optimism.
Is it just me, or does anybody else recognize a huge cognitive difference between what he says, and what he actually produces?
Hm.
strike that 'cognitive' from that last question.... i'm asleep at the wheel, apparently.
sounds like a used car salesman
whatever happened to the Libeskind that made beautiful dwgs and buildings
what i like about libeskind's architecture is that he challenges traditional notions of space through the design of spatial "fantasies". what's dated, however, is the lack of specificity...everything ends up looking like a museum.
In 40 years, I seriously doubt people will look at Libeskind's works feeling anything beyond malaise. He's a cliche, and so are his thoughts on architecture. I sat through the whole TED lecture, and I find him to be a nothing more than a caricature.
17 words for his vision of architecture.....1 word for him....PRETENTIOUS....
It is unbeleivable that he talks bout how he does not like things to be repeat things "which has been hollowed by its meaninglessness" or "architecture is about space...not about fashion, not about decoration"
Has he even LOOKED at all his recent works; they all seem like a Libeskind rubber stamp with no site-specificity where he repeats the same elements and the same materials. So while his architecture may have been a risk at a certain time- today it's a tried and tested formula.
As much as his courage for trying something new can be admired, he is becoming very dated very fast
