Part Bauhaus shelter, part Bedouin tent, “afterparty” is a simple construction of silver mesh stretched on a skeleton of standard aluminum poles and brackets and then topped off with a thick brown toupee of ijuk, or palm fibers. Meredith described this material, which is commonly used throughout Indonesia for roofing, as “very Arte Povera.”

"Arte Povera"? Isn't an afterparty, just another party?
But as I expressed on an earlier post, i love the prehistoric/primitive shapes/form.
Oh my god, I'm completely in love with this project! I love the contrast between the sleek silver and the hairy hair. And the forms are almost recognizable. It evens meets the ground gracefully. So restrained and so gorgeous!
postmodernism gone wrong
i don't know...
Arte Povera: Of all the artistic labels to emerge during the cultural ferment of the 1960s, Arte Povera is the most poetic as well as the most elusive. from: http://www.walkerart.org/archive/5/AD73F90F341B63316165.htm
why is this small pocket of harvard ppl still so jazzed about the cloud of '68? really? come on, you weren't born yet either, and you still never had that political urge, so get over it. why try to align yourself so much with a time in the past? even dubious, tired conferences on the topic won't resume the ghosts of this overplayed generational stalemate fascination.
this project, though? loves it!
that's because MOS projects are spot on.
what we're after here is a new primitive, not a link to the 60's.
Sorry to say this but again a, -- well not even a structure, but a surface wrapped some way, just a skin and not any more innovative than what the hippies would deliver. Yes it make a difference, but what more do it make, will it spark anything inspire or make a solution. I don't think so, but agiain that is just surface and with a smarter look, a little Decor, I guess many of those who don't like it, would praise it --- for the image it make, like rest of architecture, surface and looks.
