Miguel Robles-Durán in conversation with Hector Torres Casado, Venezuela's Vice-Minister of Housing. They speak about social identity and the production of spatial 'difference' in indigenous Venezuelan communities. Instead of providing generic solutions for statistical needs, Venezuelan housing policy starts from local conditions and cultural specificity, resulting in tailor- made solutions and designs. The goal, regionalism, at the village and tribe level.

the project seems to be purposeful in the context of current or imminent crisis with urbanization although there are a few questions coming to my mind for clarification within the wider context of the site, and hence some assumptions have to be made to talk about the project. for instance, i do not understand how much investments for modern programs are going to be made to these seemingly theoretical town morphologies of the extended family housing typology introduced. otherwise, in spite of the orthogonal arrangement, they seem vernacular rather than regional and to serve the marginalized in the socio-economic fabric of power relationships as critically inquired by miguel in the third question, which would especially be the case if the issue of privacy is not going to be further advanced through these projects by allowing the communal aspects of living condition to determine the interiors of the wings of each unit. this would help me to understand how the values or ideals of 'venezolanidad' could be translated in other regional modern contexts including slums. architecturally, i think the article would be more informative with the formal analysis of the housing unit in the pume community and also in the warao community: it is interesting to see how the differences between the two types already suggest evolutionary traits of the process and different species.
