This weekend "The Piazza at Schmidt's" (aka the backyard of my apartment building) officially opens tomorrow in Philadelphia's Northern Liberties neighborhood. This may just be the best new (privately owned) public space to be built in the US in many years. The piazza and its surrounding buildings were designed by local firm Erdy McHenry Architects.

Sounds good! Unfortunately I can't get he slide show to work, so I can't see any more of it than the one image.

i like some of the work erdy mchenry are doin...worked with one of the guys on the project team...also went to school with another.. both good guys..nice to see some good work coming out of philly.
where are all the trees? that's not a very appealing plaza.
there are trees lining each side of the space along the buildings... they've actually filled out a bit already since the picture was taken... and they actually replaced a few of the scrawnier ones with some larger ones this week...
looks great
It looks very well designed and they had taken care of the details. I wish buildings in Williamsburg are designed by this guy, not Karl Fischer.
