"Tata, the Indian company that made worldwide headlines with its $2,000 Nano car, now plans to build 1,000 tiny apartments outside Mumbai that will sell for $7,800 to $13,400 each. The company plans to roll out low-cost projects outside other major cities." Businessweek

this is so bizarre. look at the size of that door swing in comparison to the sofa and chairs!
is this meant for very, very small people?
no ckl, but for very poor people
yeah, I know and have nothing against it.
I just think the way of life inside these apartments would be very different than what's depicted in this plan.
I'd be more interested to see that.
Suburban setting, but tiny houses...? Why not just stack them together into apartment buildings?
Nothing special as a type of small flat. Only price is good.
Indeed in USSR was build millions m2 of living flat like this. There was some slaller then in this. Today you can buy very small flat have 27m2 of area in St-peterbourg and other russian cities.
From other hand after USSR crush in early 1990-x the price of 54m2 flat whith two rooms is about 10000USD.
In China is like this 12000-15000USD for good 1-room "appartments" with square area like this.
In USSR was joke:
"What Nikita Hrushev not achieve in architecture?
- Combined closet with kitchen and ceiling with foor "(i've cause in one flat)
As an indians we, russians, was be happy when millions of familyes can able to living in small, but own flats. Before that they was living into rooms in big old flats and in barracks with rats.
It is indeed a very good idea in giving the price less. but the organisations have to be changed and not to maintain as it is shown in the render cause it will end up as typical Indian apartments with cloths hanging out as we see in bombay while we travel in local trains. Pls provide them space with eachother or in group outside eventhough inside is small and dont try to put people inside like in farms how u keep the chickens inside the cage.
these people like to converse outside and live life out of there dwelling. The way of living there is very different from many cultures. I think that if one is going to adress the problem one must find ways to provide consisant cheap water and the right of tenure. Many bigger issues are at hand but this is a well needed start.
