LAFAYETTE  Documentary filmmaker Charles Schultz will show his film, “The Rural Studio” as part of UL Lafayette's School of Architecture's lecture series at 3:30 p.m. Oct. 12 in Fletcher Hall, Room 134.
The film is about Auburn University's Rural Studio, a program created by MacArthur Fellow and the late Auburn professor, Sam Mockbee. The program placed students in rural impoverished areas of Alabama to build homes and buildings for people and areas in need. Mockbee challenged students to implement unconventional mediums, including tires and other recycled materials in their designs and construction. Mockbee died in 2001, but the program continues.
The film was a jury award winner for best feature length documentary film at the Festival International de Cinema Del Medi Ambient, Barcelona, Spain.
The screening is free and open to the public. For more information, contact the College of the Arts at (337) 482-1423.
