Hard by the Yangtze River, ten miles from Nanjing, a giant, glowing hollowed-out trapezoid hovers above the trees. The otherworldly Sifang Art Museum, designed by the American architect Steven Holl, [...] an edgy sign of the ancient city’s rapid modernization. — smithsonianmag.com

A first look? They've been giving tours for years.
How quickly will this building fall apart?
Thayer - D,
If the engineers ran the numbers, construction in terms of materials and assembly did not go on the cheap side because the developers for this project pushed them to, the structure should last(should being the operative word).
As a architectural lighting designer, I find the treatment of the translucent sides really distracting. It makes the building look really cheaply constructed, like the sides are made of corrugated plastic and the lighting was an after-thought. That, and the fact that the light pollution from this is horrible! The same effect could have been achieved with a lot less light output. They should have taken the picture in the daytime so we wouldn't see just how horrible it really is but, I think they thought this actually looked good. Other than that, the building is interesting.
