, one of the worlds largest hotel groups by number of rooms, today announced that a Hotel Indigo is coming to downtown Cleveland. Construction is expected to begin this fall on the adaptive reuse of the mid-century landmark Breuer Tower, with an anticipated opening in spring 2010. ell this seems to be fantastic news, and a great option for adaptive re-use of a MidMod building!
That said, the Indigo in Naptown is a Dryvit piece of crap, but maybe that's because it's not downtown; it's in the burbs, surrounded by many acres of Dryvit pieces of crap.
Anyway, great news!
excellent.
finally some good news. glad to hear that cleveland is once again making the streets safe for mid-century modernism!
i don't know anything about hotel indigo...but this has got to be better than tearing the building down just because it looks ugly to 2-out-of-3 county commissioners
this is very nice news indeed!
More news on Breuer in the news when I returned home from retreat today.

I looked at Indigo's nouveau riche crap and thought the same thing as Liberty Bell. I do hope they allow someone to design the room and apartments to fit with the shell of the building and the beautifully clean and spare modernist original interiors. What a travesty it would be to turn half the building into a "wanna have taste but don't know what it is" Budgetel. The blue theme is beachy and has no place in the chic downtown building. Ralph Lauren at least knows when a suit is a suit and a sport shirt and shorts are a sport shirt and shorts, eh? You don't wear those Bermuda shorts with a suit jacket and tie no matter how cool each piece is.
I love how the 60s have infiltrated the current popular culture. If you want to look like someone with taste and money you order a martini, but probably it is an apple martini or some such crap because you don't really want the chilled gin with just the hint of vermouth that is a martini.
Also for those of you who do not know the Post Rotunda (which Breuer made his tower to showcase) has beautiful murals by Francis Millet. A gallery in here? With the Tiffany dome?

I am not sure how this is supposed to work. See the murals close up here: http://www.glts.org/articles/millet/ctc/
