zoolander, are you saying that Netsch was SOM corporate crony? He was a rebel and an architectural outsider, like Eisenman pretends to be. He was a pioneer in the fields of complex geometry and forms that derive from theories such as chaos and fractals; and this was 40-50 years before the greg lynns and van berkels were messing around with this stuff.
Thats where they made the atomic bomb that wiped out Hiroshima etc.
I've read Nathinel Owings autiobiography, its a good read.
He seems deeply regretful of SOM's involvement in this scheme & indeed when the contract was signed he accidently dropped into the red desert dust (after a rain storm) and he commented.
"The contract wasen't soaked in blood, but it might as well have been"
He also describes other military projects throughout the world for the US. He said it was almost embrassing how much money SOM made from these projects, the pay was so good. Anyway, its soul was sold for the almighty dollar.
SOM continue to work on top secret projects for the US, hence the men with automatic weapons outside their NY office.
SOM is also working in Dubai, with which I take severe moral issue. It was an article I read in which on of their senior architects commented that the workers were getting paid something like a dollar a day that woke me up to the human rights issues in Dubai.
That said, Netsch was brilliant.

Well thank god he lived long enough to see his architect's license reinstated. What a big stupid bureaucratic mistake that whole thing was.
RIP Mr. Netsch.
SOM have so much blood on their hands.
They have sold their souls & I have no sympathy for anyone related to that firm.
How do so many architects who design absolute rubbish, detested by its inhabitants get such good reputations?

Projects like Oak Ridge are only the tip of the iceberg in terms of schemes by SOM that have lead to the slaughter of millions.
That Oak Ridge project looks awesome! What's your problem with it, zooey?

Wow, thanks for the straight-up info, zoolander.
