Zaha Hadid wins the competition to design the new Solomon R Guggenheim museum in Vilnius, Lithuania. With a shiny, metallic blob, she beats the shiny, metallic blobs of fellow global stars Daniel Libeskind and Massimiliano Fuksas. Bustler
I see a ship wrecked on the river bank. The interiors of Hadid's buildings are much more interesting than the exterior, which I think is a good thing.
Noteworthy: The Libeskind metallic blob looks like a departure of his signature wiggly lines. The landscaping is also one of the more interesting, and I'm curious what its interior looks like.
And Fuksas' design looks like God dropped his iPod on the ground accidentally.
it's interesting that lebiskind and hadid took on landscape in the design, and i find lebiskind's proposal more engaging although less resolved (don't see much of what happens underneath the ground plane)...was this part of the competition brief or are we seeing a trend? beyond good/bad commentary, what does this say about museum design and the "museum economy"?
Liebeskind's proposal is interesting - would be nice to see more drawings and images. The Hadid-piece is just product design, the interiors are also underwhelming. Firts time ever that I would have wished for a Danny-boy victory...
this is dogshit! can someone please tell me what her 'idea' is.. both other entries seem to have a better sense of an idea or a concept.. this really looks like a spaceship!
What don't you like about it, EvilPlatypus? From your comments it sound like you object to its roundness. Perhaps you just prefer boxes. But then (as you can see in the background to the renderings) there are boxes everywhere already aren't there? So perhaps you should stop being a fascist. Or perhaps you are a mere reactionary - pushed around by your fear : fear of difference, fear of the new, fear of the computer. You sound like Pauline Hanson. And please don't respond saying that it is a blob for two reasons. One, people (generally) stopped making blobs in the late 90's. This is an articulated construction of multiple components. Hardly a blob, it just happens to be smooth. Secondly, so what?

I do like the landscape as it looks in the renders though....

Flight of Navigator has hit the ground.
what, d-lib's proposal doesn't revolve around salt crystallines?
zaha's looks like a melting-Phaeno... these windows..
Compare with Zaha's entry for the Perm Museum competition (which won her a respectable third prize, previously on Bustler). Déjà vu anyone?
why cant anyone just say "this is dogshit"
dogshit, are you serious. so lets see what you've done.

fuksas entry seems the most intriguing to me...at least there were some hierarchy in form there...too bad he seemed to neglect the landscape...
so glad to see libeskind trying again...maybe he needs to remember what it is to try hard!
zaha's reminds me why i have a feeling her building CONCEPTS (not the buildings themselves) self indulgent and irrelevant.
still...all are good...
