MVRDV, Kengo Kuma and Julien De Smedt are among the 20 architects designing 20 villas on the island of Taiwan. The Spaniard Fernando Menis, Berlin and LA based Graft, as well as 10 Taiwanese practices are among the other architects taking part. Next Gene - is that an interesting twist on Next Gen, or a typo on their part?
isn't there another hi end island in caribbean sea with top architects designing away? zaha etc.?
of course there is dubai world too, but they are going with mc mansion style.
is this a movement that people with a lot of money moving away to defend against possible uprising and subsequent burning off the easy money?
captains of the industry... what's new right? should we care and see this as architectural improvements? something that will make people's lives better?
sure i can look at it as individual pieces of beauty that only the few and fortunate will appreciate and we will develop serious opinions about them as architectural community. but so what...? back to deciding what's for lunch. tacos or burrito?
There is another one in Shanghai called Zhongkai Sheshan Villas. The client hired 9 high profile US firms and 1 NZ firm to design 79 totally different style houses and 2 club houses on a very crowded site. It is said being under construction at the moment.
