"A mess" is how architect Renzo Piano described LACMA in 2001, when he was initially asked to compete for the chance to improve the museum's disjointed six-building agglomeration and add contemporary art galleries. Last weekend, the museum's relatively modest Piano-designed Broad Contemporary Art Museum, along with its new entrance plaza and walkways, opened to the public. "Mess" is still the operative word, though, for the museum's sprawling campus, despite Mr. Piano's best efforts. WSJ | previously
