Three national design firms have been selected as finalists to create a master plan for Shelby Farms, park officials announced Tuesday morning at a press conference. Shelby Farms Park Conservancy, the nonprofit organization that oversees the 4,500-acre park, narrowed the pool from 33 applicants after a month-long review process. The result is a trio of respected companies that have completed projects similar in scope to Shelby Farms, a recreational and educational destination that draws a million visits each year and ranks among the largest urban parks in the country. 2 out of the three are the usual suspects - Field Ops and Hargreaves. Tom Leader Studio is a strong firm that doesn't get as much recognition outside of the bay area- so good to see them entering the fray.
there are also some local partnerships being wrought: Hargreaves is partnering with Ritchie Smith Associates, and Tom Leader has pegged buildingstudio- So who is fO playing with?
the $450k fee isn't very much- $100/acre barely pays for the firms to visit the site - So all ya'll architects stop complaining about being underpaid!
