For Twin Cities design aficionados, a new I-35W bridge across the Mississippi River presents a chance to build a breathtaking landmark with a world-renowned bridge designer. Star Tribune | via mediabistro | previously
Ap- thanks for this news item. I embarked on a letter writing campaign few weeks ago asking for better design and accommodating public transit with the new bridge. Seems to have made a difference or was part of many people writing about the same issue.
Not sure if I want calatrava, he's too predictable in what he'll deliver, Thom Fisher is pushing for Christian Menn who would be more interesting
it will be interesting to see if there is concern voiced on the part of the public about a bridge that is anythng other than a large solid heavy traditional bridge that looks like it would have no chance of falling down. thanks for posting this I look forward to seeing what happens
given the situation (responding to your line of thinking, hoodlam), something that is structurally over-expressive (like much of calatrava's work) would seem appropriate. like treekiller, i'd like to see someone other than santi get the job... anyone but the army corps of engineers, or similar.

I'd be curious to see what Cecil Balmond could come up with....('REM'less)
