What!!??
alright!! more positive stories about yale affiliated peoples!
actually it does sound like a positive slant on deamer, holz. staff and students appear to be behind her. but methinks ms pretty has a problem....
Peggy Deamer is one of the best teachers I've ever had, I'd love to hear the story behind this ... any NZ kids reading?
hmmm...i guess the students at Auckland Univ. School of Architecture are learning early how Politics trump architecture and design...
always sad when students are not viewed as the priority in the academic environment....
simples, based on a not-atypical faculty meeting yesterday that my husband attended, the students are viewed as tuition payments and little else. The state of contemporary education is a for the most part a disaster.
i've been flirting with my alma mater in re to teaching, but when i hear these stories, i start to lean towards just continuing my guest jury/crit participation. I take academic involvement very seriously (too seriously according to some) and since my focus is professional, I hesitate in getting involved with this "disaster".
liberty, you teach, right!? is it rewarding!?
sorry for the tangent...i'd love to hear more on Auckland Uni
yeah, having had classes with peggy deamer and a high amount of respect for her i doubt this is a problem stemming all from her. sucks.
I am not an Auck Uni Alumni and it doesnt seem like alot of NZ'ers frequent this site - apart from agfa8x who may be able to shine some light... I would love to hear more.

Thanks to everyone for taking an interest.
we'll post more as we can
I'm a student at auckland uni!!!
I actually had an interesting conversations with peggy about architecture education at a workshop down at wellington for CtrlShift07. It was obvious that she had great plans for the school and her enthusiasm for change was very inspiring. It is such a shame that we will never witness her vision.
I'm interested in hearing what other schools of archiecture staff think about all of this, is this a common occurance?
ploo & nz arch girl - start a thread and get a conversation going with other students...
Hi, we've started a discussion group
Auckland University - Student concerns
it's under Academia.
I've posted a run-down of what the student view is.
Also more info has been posted on the blog with definitely more to come.
cheers
Readers of this page may care to know that Peggy Deamer has accepted a temporary position teaching design at Auckland's other school of architecture at Unitec. The staff and students there are pleased that her talents remain available to architecture in New Zealand, at least until the end of the year.

it's a shame that Auckland Uni is sinking because of the politics. however, as a student, i consider myself lucky that i had a great 'half' semester with peggy, she was in deed a very inspiring professor and i do envy the students at Unitec now.
