I'm thrilled to see Bogota get good press. Truly, it is a absolutely gorgeous city. I've been travelling back and forth since I was wee-kid and have seen it transform drastically.
An interesting intitiative the city took a few years ago was to deal with the strong smell of diesel. Bogota is surrounded by mountains and there was a constant lingering smell of diesel fuel hoovering over the city. The city recognized that it was a serious problem for their quality of life. They began to remove the center median lane and converted them to green boulevards with planted native eucalyptus trees. Eucalyptus naturally releases a sweet aroma that is strong enough to tackle the constant diesel smell. Not only did they successfully deal with an air quality issue, they also successfully greened their city.
This Grint article shows that Bogota made their list of 15 Green Cities.
I may be biased. Soy Colombiana.
