Surrounded by acres of sun-ripening grapes, 300 dignitaries and guests convened in the Napa Valley of California last month to celebrate the long-delayed groundbreaking of the Hall Winery, designed by the architect Frank O. Gehry. NYT | previously
i guess when you've been practicing architecture for as long as frank gehry has, you can get away with draping burlap sacks over a model and calling it architecture.
anyone know what material the roof lattice thing is supposed to be? they mention concrete or wood in this thing and the video seems to show some kind of composite as the mockup?
This project is completely out of context for the beautiful and pristine Napa Valley. Anyone who is familiar with the area will know immediately that a one-off one-liner iconic "Gehry" building will tarnish the beauty of the natural landscape due to the building's inherent self-referential pretension. This shit might work in downtown LA or a run-down industrial city in Spain where the only thing that can revive the area is a building screaming for attention like a neglected kid. If you want to see a good winery bldg. designed by starchitects in the Napa Valley check out the Dominus Winery by Herzog & DeMeuron.
