"From the roof deck of Sherman Ochs’s Mexican-style villa atop a breezy bluff, the entire island of Jalisco, population about 20, spreads out below. It is a picturesque place of palm trees, lush lawns and near-cloudless skies. And, of course, there are the perfect sands around the lagoon, where residents grind their perfect bodies together in an N.C.L., or Naked Conga Line." NYT

mmmhh to comment or not, there's the dilemma.... but interesting, very...
AP--woah there. pot calling the kettle black.
(see NY subway flooding news from yesterday)
the news item that i posted today wasn't a repost of yours from yesterday, aeglitis. you posted an article published yesterday, and my post this morning was of 3 articles published today.
this news post is a repost of the same exact article posted by Quilian this morning. so "woah there" yourself, friend.
My bad. But Quilian does have a three hour advantage over us west coasters.
s'all good man. i think Quilian has some of us east coasters by 3 hours too...he'll post 3 news items and a blog entry before i even wake up!
yes, I am an early bird. Nothing goes with Corn Flakes like posting news ;)
good one Liebchen! score one for you.
ya, this recentism concept is interesting, thanks for sharing it, Leibchen. but this a news feed, not a series of encyclopedia entries.
and since this is ongoing event, it's entirely appropriate to continue following (and posting) coverage as it unfolds. wikipedia isn't the place for that (as outlined in the recentism entry), but a news feed is.
*just to be clear, my first post was just a heads up, not an indictment. many of us have double posted new items in the past. it happens.
I've double posted news many times. I've also read duplicate postings without even noticing the first post before seeing the second called out as a double post. I'm thinking that double posting may be a good thing actually. If it's posted twice, it's probably more newsworthy, and worth a little extra exposure... ?
I often post the exact same item five or six times...
And I forward all of them to AP.
just read the article in the august '07 wired about how second life isn't living up to hopes and dreams. advertisers bailing because they hoped to reach new audiences but all the places they go seem to be....empty. and then the part about why you'll never find much of a crowd in second life: the host software can't support groups of more than 70 in any one place! interesting article to check out.
AP, I pointed to the recentism article because the phenomenon is caused by zealous editors who would like to be the first to report on a current event, so in that sense, it is similar to what happens here. In Wikipedia's case, it's not necessarily a positive thing, but here at Archinect, I think it speaks to the community's excitement to share discoveries in the news.
Steve, here is an article about Second Life's 4th Birthday (SL4B) celebration. The event was held on a dedicated sim...unfortunately, no Second Life user could get in. The sim's capacity filled early with Lindens (adminstrators who work for the company that owns SL), and special guests. The pictures are great: avatars hovering near the invisible wall between sims.
I like double postings too, because sometimes (like now) the conversation is completely different.
